Welcome to my blog.

After a few random posts I've decided to dedicate this blog to my life long project of Japanese food
and culture (and my life in general, especially my travels).

Since my first taste of sushi back in 1997 I've been interested in, and frequently been making
Japanese food.
My interest in the country and culture started long before and continues to evolve.
I was lucky to finally visit Japan in October 2008, again in November 2019 and hope to be back soon.
In July 2012 I visited Japantown in San Fransisco, the next best thing!
I was lucky to be back in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019 thanks to the fact that we now have family living in California.
Both small and big adventures will from now on, as time permits, be shared with you.

I will post other recipes and pictures too, mainly cooking projects, plants and art projects
(including my new love - making kumihimo braided objects).

I hope you'll find it interesting, and feel free to leave a comment or ask questions!

I write mainly in English, but there will be some Norwegian too, especially posts about things
that mainly have Norwegian interest. Tutorials are bi-lingual.

Tutorial: Half flat braid with edge color

Kumihimo tutorial - half flat braid with 8 threads - make a bracelet with edge color

You´ll need for one bracelet: 4 threads in bugtail size, aprox. 75 cm (2,5 feet) long, in two colors.  It fits in 5-6 mm oval endcaps or round endcaps.
You´ll also need: 2 oval endcaps 5-6 mm, one clasp, one pearl on a pin, crystal or charm and 4-5 jumprings 5 mm.

Du ser utstyret på de første bildene.
First two pictures show the equipment.

Disc, a mobile strap I use to secure the threads, satin cord, jumprings, clasp and charms. You´ll also need 2 endcaps.

Her er startoppsettet.
Start setup: Two threads in each direction; north, east, south and west. We will not move the disc for this braid. Edge color: Both upper threads and lower thread right/ left.

Move the first thread: The upper left one goes down to the right of the right threads. From 32 to 10.

Move the second thread: The upper right one goes down to the left of the left threads. From 1 to 23.

Move the third thread: The lower left one goes up to the right of the right threads (east). From 17 to 7.

Move the fourth thread: The lower right one goes up to the left of the left threads (west) . From 16 to 26.

All the threads are now in east and west. Start with the next to upper right thread and move it straight down south. From 8 to 16.

Move the next to upper left thread straight down south. From 25 to 17.

Move the next to lower right thread straight up north. From 9 to 1.

Move the next to lower left thread straight up north. From 24 to 32.

Adjust the right side (east) by moving each thread one notch. From 7 to 8 and from 10 to 9.

Adjust the left side (west) by moving each thread one notch. From 26 to 25 and from 23 to 24.

Vi er tilbake i startposisjon! Repeter til båndet er 15-20 cm langt.
And we´re back in starting position! Repeat until the braid is about 2/3 foot, 15-20 cm.

Under ser du to ferdige armbånd.
Under is an example of two finished bracelets.

Hi! I've already posted tutorials for most of the techniques I use, so I don't have any plans for the moment to post more. But I never say never! There's also many videos on YouTube if you want to learn more. Best regards Line

Thank you for posting this tutorial. I've wanted to make a braid with edge color since seeing an exhibit of samurai armour in Houston, TX. I love things Japanese and also would like to visit your beautiful country in the next year or so. Best regards!

Takk for at du deler❤🤗
